Dec. 31st, 2005 04:46 pmFriday morning, 6:30 I was heading across the water to the mainland. It was very windy so the trip was pretty rocky.. it's always inspiring to see vomit bags on the seats.
After driving Amanda to work, Arika Mattheus and I headed to the wild world of the mall. I found a sweet sweater for Tae and a little t-shirt for Arika. We bought chocolate chips, went for lunch and headed home. Tae went for a nap and Arika and I made oatmeal/coconut/chocolate chip cookies that were very delicious. I decided to attack my sister's kitchen and scrubbed down her fridge and floors, etc, because I know it's a lot of work to keep your house up when you are both working full time and have two toddlers.
Oh.. I brought pretty pink yarn to make a toque for Arika and she decided she hated pink and wanted green, so we went to buy yarn. She walks her little 3 year old body over to the yarn and picked out the brightest lime green I'd ever seen. Thankfully I managed to get her to take another look and she picked some striped, almost as bright, multicoloured yarn instead. I made Tae a blue and grey striped toque as well.
Fast forward to the evening.. around 9 pm Amanda and I went for a run in the rain. It was interesting to run on the road instead of the trails. I went back afterwards in the car and clocked it, out of curiosity and just neurosis. We ran 2.5k and then walked 1k uphill. Serious uphill. I would have preferred to just keep running.
Hung out this morning together, then off to the 12:10 ferry home. It was pretty rocky again, huge swells, but I love seeing a rough ocean.
Naomi phoned while I was talking to Tim, on the ferry, and wanted to go for a bike ride. I came home, got changed and Nico and Naomi picked me up. We did a 6k route in the forest. Oh my goodness, I was absolutely soaked and covered in mud. Even my helmet was covered in mud. I was soaked through completely, with nice black lines of mud up my legs, ass and back. Naomi was wiping mud off my chin!
( take a good long look at my thighs )
I forgot how great it felt to be riding fast on a bike. I also, however, forgot how to ride effectively and I almost killed myself going up the first hills because I didn't realize I should gear down so my legs could petal fast, and was on the hardest gears. Sure makes a difference once you start riding properly.
Home, shower, soup.
I'm first responder here tonight, so I'm not sure if I'll go out or not. I'm planning on staying in, but I might head out to friends a bit before midnight.... or maybe I'll just crawl into bed and enjoy a good long sleep. Rick called and invited me to his house and Brandi and Kevin invited me to their house, I'm not feeling this huge urge to go anywhere this year though.
