arg!

It's finally kind of cooler outside so I tried to weed my front garden and I now have more than 10 15 mosquito bites on one arm, and some on my back. Annoying!!! It's too hot during the day and too buggy at night. I need to just adjust my thinking and accept the fact that I am going to be a disgusting sweaty mess when I weed.

Easy going day today. Paxton and I slept in till almost 10, Reagan went to a playground with Amy, Amelia and the baby. If I hadn't just woken up, I would have gone too. Paxton got fussy around lunch time so I put him down for a nap and I fell asleep for 3 hours with him! Reagan played in Amy's pool and Tim mowed the lawn. I was so tired I didn't even hear the lawn mower going.

Tim took care of the baby so I could remove my toe nail polish and have a bath and shave my legs. It's amazing how you take being able to do those things for granted before having a baby. I tried to remove my polish with Paxton running around but he kept touching my nails.

Dinner, attempt at weeding, Reagan wrote her journal, said goodbye to Tim and Reagan and now Paxton and I are just hanging out downstairs. He spent about an hour last night with an empty Puffs container and a little ball, putting the ball in and out of the container. He even tried to put the lid on it. Apparently it was fun enough to repeat tonight.

I think I'll catch up on some So You Think You Can Dance. I didn't watch any while I was in Canada, and that's a lot of dancing in the DVR!

I need stakes for my tomato plants, they are all falling over. This is where I miss my dad.. when I still lived on the Island, I'd just get him to split some kindling for me and use that. Here I have to think out where to buy things! I'm guessing Home Depot sells some kind of stakes.

Silly little things. One week and I'll be home and then I'll be good for another 3 or 4 months ;)

My grass is finally growing! I'm happy we've had a bit more rain than usual, since we pay for our water usage. I've been watering on the days it doesn't rain, and it's finally paying off. The grass that was already there is getting way too long, and will be a pain for Tim to mow, but we want the new grass to be established before mowing.

I scraped the top off my pinkie finger when I was planting. I stood up and scraped it on the patio concrete, and it's amazing how such a teeny little scrape can annoy me so much!

I made smoothies today, with bananas and strawberries, and even though it soured my tummy, I drank half of mine and that's the most fruit I've had in a long time. My indigestion is bad again today, but baby just seems to be stretching up further and further towards my throat. :P

Tim's painting the baby's closet, so the bedroom will be finished and I can start hanging up baby clothes. Yay. Speaking of Tim, I feel so bad for him, his poison ivy rash is so bad, big welts!!

I didn't get my material cut up, but I did get my sweet and jalapeno peppers finally planted, and my bush and pole beans. I should never complain about pregnancy, because I've wanted this for so long, but man, it's harder to garden with a baby in the front of you. I put myself down on the ground and managed to bend forward sort of, to plant, but then that triggered my indigestion. :P

Oh, the trials.. heh

Glad those seeds are finally in the ground, only started the peppers a month and a half late!

yard work

Trying to use this bit of extra energy for things around the house. Folded a load of towels, did some other laundry. Need to strip the bed this afternoon. Stripped the beds. Really really need to attack Reagan's playroom, but also need some shelves and better storage for in there. I think I'm going to put away about half the toys, it's just a big mess because there is way too much to play with.

Went outside and gardened for about an hour. So so close to being done with one bed. They were not well taken care of, so many rocks and weeds, and the onions are bizarre. There are wild onions growing all over the neighbourhood in everyone's lawns! It's stinky when I'm weeding though.

Michael, the neighbour boy who is 12, walked by and asked me why I wasn't inside the house relaxing. I told him I was pregnant, not dead! :P He's the one who was shocked to see me mowing the lawn last summer, and told another neighbour he "had never seen a woman mowing before".

I also went into our marshy backyard and hauled all the broken branches from storms, and brushes into a big pile in the corner of the yard. We need some kind of an ax or hatchet or something, plus a big compost box to put yard clippings in.

It's so weird to be feeling the baby all the time. I keep feeling like I'm going to have to fart, but don't, I just associate belly rumbling with gas but this is all baby. Last night I was pushing down on my belly and felt some really good kicks. It's amazing, such a blessing.

I found a little energy and motivation.

I hung 4 hooks by our front door, so we can stop using the railings on the banister as coat hooks.
Opened a bunch of unopened mail.
Started laundry.
Tidied the living room.
Tidied the kitchen counters.
Got rid of the big table my laptop was on and moved it onto a smaller, lower table.
Filled out our 2010 USA Census forms, my first one.
Pulled out food for dinner, in case Tim doesn't go to his concert.
Finally called and figured out the issues with my Navy Federal accounts.
Weeded the front garden.

Pretty good!

Tim's on his way home, so time to make him some dinner! It's been nice to have windows open, I love how fast the weather changes here, from 3 feet of snow to shorts and bare feet weather!

This spring I want to plant so many things.. hydrangeas, sweet peas, shasta daisies, clematis in the back yard, plus a ton of other flowers like nicotina, zinnias, poppies, fox gloves.. I think I'm really really sick of snow because I just want to see flowers.

I have to figure out what grows well in Virgina though! I'm used to planting for the west coast.

I'm excited about a veggie garden too. I know tomatoes and peppers will do well here, even without a greenhouse. I'm very excited about the peppers. I want to plant some fruit trees as well, but we probably need a good fill put into the yard first, and who knows when that will happen.

Of course, this means my morning sickness is going to have to go away, so I can actually do some weeding and planting.

love life

Yardwork was always done as a family in my house, and I don't really remember it ever being a negative thing. When we cleared our land, we were all out there picking rocks and throwing them into the forest, we had huge burn piles and forts and being outside working was just a fun time. I wasn't a big fan of stacking wood, but the rest of it I loved.

This afternoon I felt like my heart was just swelling, probably partially because I posted my wedding photos to facebook (they'll be here later), and because we were all doing yardwork as a family. Tim was mowing the lawn, I was weeding and feeding him water, Reagan was riding her scooter, grabbing garden bags when we needed them and running through the sprinkler. Really, this is what I dreamed for my life. Family, a yard, a home, sunshine, love, working together. Of course I thought I'd live up the road from my parents so my kids could walk to their grandparent's house, but we can't have everything.

I need to jump in the shower, I'm absolutely filthy. Covered with dirt and bits of grass and dust and probably spiders. Then make dinner, red curry with chicken and rice and veggies. Then Reagan heads to her mom's house. This weekend felt too short.

Our yard looks great though!!! (If you ignore the fact that we need a big truckload of fill out back!)

Today I..... sat on the couch.

Well, I also did my dishes, and cleaned out my purse, watered my garden, did some laundry, watched some movies. My throat still hurts and I feel so tired, but I want to work tomorrow, so I'm trying to just get better as quick as I can.

One of my beans finally did a grab for the strings I hung, I love the way they twist around.

The bees are quite confused by the string I put up for the beans, they keep flying around to the top, and weave in between the various strings. Poor bees, I've disrupted their lives.

for the beans to grow up

I planted a second row of peas, and filled in a few bare spots of beans, and planted another row of those as well. It'll mean a good harvest in August!

I also picked some daisies from my yard, for my kitchen.

Terrible lighting, but oh well ;)

I CANNOT wait for my dinner!!! I'm cooking some turkey breast with some veggies, as well as boiling some baby potatoes, and I have some baby beets boiling, and I have sliced yellow and green zucchini roasting in the oven!! I cannot believe how good my house smells. I made enough for my lunch tomorrow, as well.

This afternoon I had a kiwi and a nectarine as a snack, and I had ryvita crackers with peanut butter and another bag of peas for lunch. Summer has the best food!!

Last night I walked around and took pictures of things that make me happy, from my yard.

My stone stairs. I really need to clean the dry grass away, and scrap the moss off, but I love my stone stairs.

And, last but not least, I love my peas and beans that are so cute and little but will soon provide me with tasty snacks.

Yesterday I spent most my day outside gardening. After weeding the one area I photographed, I weeded a few more. I ended up having a bit of a visit with my neighbour in the front of the house. She's due any day, which is exciting. Her boys are all teenagers.. I just really like their whole family. They are Bahá'í, and are French Polynesian. She's having a home birth with her midwife, and I just think that is amazing. Feels special to know a baby will be born in this house. I am thinking about making them some meals.. they eat like I do, and don't have any dietary restrictions. (She said she only hates liver, so I'm avoiding the liver cookies I was thinking about ;) )

Anyway, I am excited for there to be a baby around. My sister is having her baby in the beginning of September, so there are going to be lots of babies!

This morning it's beautiful. It's so nice to finally have some sunshine more than one day (before the rain or snow returns, what an odd spring..). I did yoga this morning.

I think it's going to be a great day. :)
