I lasted maybe 20 minutes tops, and then I managed to throw it up all over myself, all over the table I was sitting on in a back room, all over the floor and I mean ALL OVER. I really let loose.

That was fun.

Then I started sobbing over the sink as I continued. Again, fun.

I moved into a new, clean room and the midwife told me that she was recommending that I just say I have gestational diabetes, go see the counselor at the hospital, see a nutritionist, do my 4 times a day finger pricks for the next 5 weeks and call it a day. I was concerned that would put me into high risk category and I'd be removed from the practice, but she said no, only if my blood sugars were not controllable.

Fine. I'm not doing that damn test again, that's for damn sure. Someone in a birth community here said they needed to redo it at 35 weeks but their OB said to leave it and just eat sensibly for the rest of the time. I kind of wish I had that OB. I'm so close to the end, with a baby that is growing perfectly, but fine, I'll do it. Tim says he'll follow the diet with me.

That's that!

I think we were home sometime around 10 am, I quickly washed off, went to bed and slept till 1:45 pm. It's a stressful test.

Oh sweetie!!! I'm so sorry you had to go through that! (((hugs))) The baby is PERFECT and all will go absolutely fine! Just do whatever you need to and put this behind you. :( You're gonna have that beautiful baby in your arms soon!! <3

ACK! Your body does not like high doses of sugar all at once! (I don't blame it!)

I'm glad that it shouldn't affect you too much, though blood tests and being more careful about your diet could be a PITA, certainly. *hugs*

I'll bet you needed that nap!!

If I had been you, I would have sobbed, "This is the last time I drink a fifth of vodka before coming in for this stupid test!"

I'm sorry that you puked. It's not fun on the best of days, never mind when you're pregnant.

Damn, that sucks. Reminds me that I'm glad not to be a cleaner anymore, too. I honestly quit when I realized that people sometimes puke at the gym and I might be called upon to clean it up.
I would love to hear what's on that diet.

I threw up during my 3 hour test when I was pregnant with Adrian, and they did the test through an IV instead a week later.

I am starting to hate your midwives FOR you. They are idiots. They KNOW you've had morning sickness this whole pregnancy, yet they force you to take the damn test again - for no good reason? Jerks.

My OB with Chloah came up with the same "compromise" so he filed with the diabetes clinic who called me, and upon realizing I did not in fact HAVE GD, would not take me. This was the day I ended up switching providers because he called me pissed that I wouldn't LIE to the clinic (which hello skewed results).

I do not trust these women Melanie, I would not tell you that unless I knew how much you want a natural birth, otherwise I'd ignore all this. :(

I feel that you are being pushed around a bit. I mean, maybe not, I'm not there, but you're very nice and forgiving, and they clearly don't have it together at this midwife place. You can be careful about litigation risk without walking all over your clients. It's like, at your old bank job, you probably had to be careful to look for fake bills or forged checks, but you didn't need to treat every single person who walked in like a criminal.

See, I was afriad of this happening to me, so I got all stand-up-for-myself-ish at the get go and insisted on monitoring my blood sugars at home. They thought I was insane for wanting to prick my fingers so much (they had me do it for two weeks), but damned if I was going to drink that syrup! So, uh, thanks for validating me...particularly since I've read ahead and see that you do not have GD, just a strong bodily aversion to that stuff. :D
