Dinner turned out great, even Paxton loved it. The apple pie I made turned out more like a crisp than a pie (I switched to a different recipe), but it was pretty good. Actually Reagan made most of it. She measured all the ingredients, read the recipe, she even cut all the apples (after I peeled and cored them). I think she enjoyed herself.

Tim watched Paxton on the porch and I hauled branches for about half an hour. I managed to clean a lot of the yard and worked up a good sweat. A lot of those branches were like individual trees! It was nice to do the work, I felt like I needed to do something physical. I'll try to get out a few more times this week to finish it. We got a good price on the cutting of the trees, but that didn't include cleanup. Tim and I are talking about what would be worth the cost.. renting a chainsaw or buying a small one. We have a lot of branches that need to be cut smaller so we can sent them with our yard waste. We figure anything Billy or Dave (neighbours) want to cut up, they can have, since they both heat with wood. If they don't want it, craigslist it is.

We had a great weekend with Reagan. I went over her flashcards for math with her. Her attitude was awesome all weekend, she played with her brother and helped watch him when we needed. She did all her jobs plus some without complaining. She was just funny and sweet and silly. Made me sad for the weekend to end.

The weekend was a really good one! Well, despite the high fever, sore throat and illness I had, the rest was good. The baby slept well in his crib last night, curled up beside me. I like the setup. Even if he ends up in my bed, I don't worry about him rolling off the edge in the night.

I'm not sure if anyone else has this same insanity as me, but when I'm sick I suddenly feel overwhelming urges to clean. Like the instant I feel slightly better I have to go do jobs. The other day it was to clean out our closet of stuff, organize Reagan's closet, etc, plus cook and make the kids food and things like that. Then I hit a wall and was worse than before. Well, today I decided I needed to sweep.. desperately. Then all the chairs had to be moved, oh and then I noticed the chair rails were dusty, and wait, it's been a while since I moved all the couches, and the end tables. On and on, I stopped myself though, before I washed the floor. Not THAT desperate. Apparently we had a balloon hiding place behind one of the couches, there were three balloons that Reagan got weeks ago, back there, still full of air. I killed them all.

Tim is out doing some errands, I got him to buy me some brewer's yeast so I can make some lactation cookies.

Just talked to my mom, they are doing their Thanksgiving dinner tonight, except she's making ham instead of turkey. Silliness. Who would skip a chance to eat turkey???

We did ours last night with Reagan, I made cornish game hens with stuffing, dairy free mashed potatoes with chicken broth, asparagus and carrots:

Reagan was VERY excited about a whole bird to herself:

Reagan set up the table with candles and things and made a Canadian thanksgiving flag :P

Paxton chilled in his Canadian duds:

Till he heard he wasn't getting his own bird

So he got milk drunk and passed out

I love Reagan's sense of humour, and the way she just says the sweetest things sometimes.

Today at lunch

me: how's your sandwiches guys? (her and Amelia)
Reagan: really good!
me: excellent!
Reagan: AS ALWAYS!!

dawwww

Then the other week she was putting her new boots on and asked if they were on the right feet. I looked over and said her zippers were on the outside, and shouldn't they be on the inside?

Reagan: No, these ones zip on the outside
me: weird, all my boots when I was a kid had an inside zip
Reagan: Welcome to the future Melanie. Welcome. To. The. Future.

I still feel pretty craptastic today, but better than yesterday. Sweating like mad, but no fever. Amelia came over this morning and they've been playing all day. It's so nice that I can leave the baby with them while I shower, they kept him entertained.

Tim is side-railing the crib right now, which is excellent. Will make for a lot more room in the bed, since I tend to sleep in the middle now to make room for baby and then have room to make sure he isn't at the edge of the bed. Means Tim gets the other edge of the bed. He's been so good about it, but I think he is liking the roominess of the futon downstairs way too much the last couple nights. I miss my husband when he isn't in bed with me.

I just wrote out all the books I've read so far, and my reading really stopped in July when the baby was born. A few times I've climbed into the bath with a book, in the last couple weeks, but then once I'm in there I just want to close my eyes and rest. I probably need some new books, the problem might be that I'm attempting to read the only book I haven't read in the house, one Tim's mom gave me that is about a puppy.. just not my kind of book. I'm tempted to read it just to see if it's appropriate for Reagan, and give it to her if it is.

Chicken soup for dinner. Hopefully on the mend. I was pretty sad to miss the big baby wearing fun in DC today! Thanksgiving in Canada, I don't think I'll do a turkey, think I'll do what I did last year and roast some Cornish Game Hens. We are invited to a few Thanksgiving things in the area, but I don't think I want to pass my sickness to a bunch of Canadian strangers.

We decorated our Christmas tree tonight, and I love it. (click pictures twice to see bigger sizes)

and I love them:

and I loved setting up for Thanksgiving:

and I love turkey

This year, I barely even had to move things on the tree, Reagan's growing up so much! I also set up her tree in her bedroom and she decorated it with Amelia's help. We did some math work this evening, listened to Christmas music, ate turkey leftovers. It was a really excellent weekend, but I'm very ready for a normal day tomorrow to get this house back in order! (Although Tim says I'm under strict orders to take it easy after all my hostessing, cooking and cleaning!)

I am so thankful for Tim! Last night he was a lifesaver. He carried everything upstairs for me, he cleaned all the bathrooms, and did most the kitchen. I was really not looking forward to the bathrooms. Not that they were disgusting, they are just time consuming.

I found an online radio station streaming christmas music, so I have that on upstairs. I really want music upstairs somehow, eventually.

I'm prepping all my veggies, and I think I'm smart, I have a container for scraps going for my soup stock! Broccoli and carrots are cut up.

Green bean casserole is good, omg, and it isn't even baked yet. The sauce is amazing!! I made french fried onions last night and they are deadly good.

Roasted pumpkin seeds from my two pie pumkins.. this time did them with butter and salt. GAH. Way too tasty.

Chocolate ice cream is done. Now I'm just going to make up my pumpkin custard for the pies. I still haven't decided if I'm going to bake them today or tomorrow. I have some pumpkin left over, think I should make something with it.

Tim's dad called and they are leaving at midnight tonight, so they'll likely arrive around 7 am tomorrow. They'll skip most the traffic, and Seamus will sleep through the trip.

The husband is upstairs doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen. What a sweetheart.

I got a bit bored, this afternoon, so I went outside and mowed the lawn. I LOVE our new lawnmower, waaaay lighter and easier to mow with than the one I had in Canada. Even though it's gas, it's still light. (Not light to lift out of basement, so kudos to Tim for managing that on his own)

We just ate our Canadian Thanksgiving photos dinner, and for once I finally uploaded the photos. I'm so lazy with lj and photos these days, haven't even posted my wedding photos!

Dinner that I couldn't finish:
Canadian Thanksgiving dinner

Cornish game hen, stuffed with cranberry/bread stuffing, scalloped potatoes, green beans (went lazy with veggies) and homemade cranberry sauce.

Dining room from kitchen.. we need pictures.. new table..... on and on. Oops, I mean, grateful, I'm grateful for what we have!!

Living room with curtains up, first picture up:

(Tim and I's wish list: big beautiful rug, new curtains, leather furniture, art!, new paint)

pictures from our walk/bike ride with the neighbours )

I have triple chocolate custard cooling in the fridge, just waiting to be made into ice cream. Just need to let my stomach empty a little. So full.

Thankfulness
I know I cried after I hung up the phone with my family yesterday, and I was very grateful Tim was there to give me a hug and just understand, but today I was full of love and gratefulness for the fact that I'm here with Tim. I can't even explain how much I miss my family, my friends, the Island, my country, but at the same time, I don't want to trade it back, you know? I love Tim, I love Reagan, I love my house and my yard, my new friends, the blue Virginia skies, even being a foreigner is fun sometimes. I knew I was sacrificing a lot to move, but it's 100% worth it to be here with the guy I've loved for so many years.
